The Snowman
no do-overs
no second
helpings
the nor’easter
comes ripping
up the coast
closing
roads
schools
whole neighborhoods
bringing a
much anticipated
winter holiday
even before
the storm breaks
you’re in the yard with the kids
hoping they remember
sledding
building
an ice fort
a family of snowmen
packing the body balls adding
who knows why branch arms
cookie eyes
carrot noses
later inside
by the fire
you warm
with coffee
hot cider
wait for night
for tomorrow
when the snow
and all you’ve created
begins to melt away
