Light Rain

the memory

promised arrives

as mist silver

droplets

twirling about

too much from the clouds

and what’s inside

washes out

not enough

overcast and

the sun selects

colors until

nothing is left

you accept

mortality the

immortality of

something like love

your singular dog

your companion for

all those hard

years is dead

you see his

final breath his

soft body grow still

you let go

alone on

the trail in the

wooded park

he’s running ahead

you know beyond words

in the light born from rain

this is how you will always be together
